The Latinamation of Holidays & Celebration

More and more U.S. Latinos are celebrating traditional U.S. holidays, but many are also trying to strike a balance with their own national holidays and traditions. As the Latino population increases, they are customizing traditional holidays. Through a novel form of acculturation, Latinos are adding their own unique sabor (flavor) to U.S. holidays; we call this process "Latinamation." This occurs when Latinos mix their own customs, foods or traditions to an American holiday. Usually these modifications are influenced by their native homeland.
According to a recent survey published in Adweek's Marketing y Medios, 85% of Latinos celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday. Latinos are serving traditional American dishes such as turkey and cranberry sauce, but they are also incorporating traditional Latino dishes into the holiday cuisine. The survey revealed that 50% of Latinos serve rice and beans for Thanksgiving, 10% have turkey tacos (usually with the leftovers), 21% serve guacamole and 20% serve empanadas.
